Week ending 3/18/11: McBee, SC - Continuing Signs of Spring
New growth of vegetation favored in fire systems currently abounds in the wake of the precribed burns here.
This purple "flower" is actually the pollen sacs of long leaf pine. By contrast, loblolly "flowers" are bright yellow.
Week ending 3/25/11: Savannah and back to McBee for some burns.
The long drive to Wormsloe Plantation, several miles long, lined with several hundred 200+ year old live oaks.
Pollen from all the pines coats everything this time of year, like yellow snow. Max (my foster dog) and my work boots are no exception after a day of tromping in the pines.
